Jacksons Brickworks

Has anyone been up to Jackson's Brickworks and walked around the Nature Reserve?

The Council in their infinite wisdom have fenced off one of the last bits of unspoilt open space in Poynton with barbed wire fencing. What on earth are they thinking of? Is this how they plan to deal with Park Lane?

I have just heard on the national news that BAE Systems at Woodford, Cheshire, is to close. Does that mean the whole plant? If so, it will have a dreadful effect on Poynton.

Woodford Road bridge works

A quick update having had a look this evening.

The work is nowhere near complete. In fact more of the bridge has been removed. However there are signs that the ruts resulting from earlier laying of utility pipes are going to be repaired, as the surface tarmac has been removed.

The road is still passable by pedestrians, cyclists and motor cyclists.

Texaco garage

As we know, the tax on fuel went up 2p per litre from midnight on 31st August. On the afternoon of the 31st I bought petrol from the Poynton Texaco garage at 105.9p per litre. I see the price is now 106.9p per litre. So either:

1. He jumped the gun and added half the tax increase before the midnight deadline, or

2. The tax went up 2p but the price of the petrol has come down 1p, or

3. He is subsidising us all to the tune of 1p per litre out of the kindness of...

Moderation of forums

A week ago, with the agreement of webmaster, I made knighs a moderator. This was because I would be staying somewhere with no wifi access for a week. Administrators can also release posts, but for some reason don't appear in the list of moderators. I will still be moderating the forums as well. However having an additional moderator will hopefully improve the reliability of releasing posts in a timely manner.

Park Lane

I have just received a leaflet entitled "Poynton Village Centre, Proposed Improvement Scheme". It appears that they are intending to introduce a "shared space scheme". Has anybody any experience of how these work and is it likely to improve the traffic situation on Park Lane?

There is a public exhibition in the Civic Centre on 22nd, 23rd and 24th October.

Morrisons

I have just been into the new Morrisons. Thought I was back in Somerfield. Apart from a small bakery unit and a small meat/fish section, everything looked the same as before. In addition prices seemed to be higher than Somerfield. What have they been doing for 4 months? I hope things get better. I doubt if Tesco at Handforth Dean or our Apple Tree are quaking in their boots.

Poynton Mayor

As we are now a town we have a Mayor, Mr Tony Hall. Last Saturday he came down to Poynton Sports Club to open officially our new tennis court which sits alongside our current 4 all weather courts. What a pleasant man, totally devoid of the pomposity that often accompanies Mayordom (if there is such a word). I for one wish him all the very best in his role.

As stated on the newsletter all residents are welcome to attend the meetings . On the 24 August 2009 this one is on planning and environment ,maybe all who have an interest in the future of the village, and if at all possible should go along and listen to what our councilor's have in mind to do. Accident on Wednesday night

Just wondered if anyone knows what happened on London Road South on Wednesday night/Thursday morning at the old lightning mixers, the fence was down and flowers but later that day nothing the fence was back up and flowers removed !!!!!! bit strange !!!!!

My suggestions for Poynton cover a few of the topics already on the forum -- Morrisons, Park Lane, Nursery Agency, etc.
I thought that I had heard Morrisons would expand by taking over Spencers which would move along the row of Queensway shops, but this does not seem to be happening.
What about Boots moving from Park Lane to the old Pine Shop and Kitchen Shop on Queensway, thus bringing their specialised services to that end of the village, and perhaps opening a pharmacy which...

Park Lane - An unanswered question to the Town Council

About a month ago I asked a question of our Councillors via the Forum about the plans for Park Lane. Presumably, with the imminent multi million pound Waitrose investment, there IS a plan. Why has nobody been able to come up with an answer?

Or is it an unbelivable, monumental cock-up and there is NO PLAN?

What in Hell's name is a local council for, if it is not to make sure we are all not dropped in it?
