Many children need to cross that road to get to Torkington Primary School and the park and it's a Knicker Gripping experience, I can tell you! High sided lorries, buses, skip wagons.....they all belt past at speeds far in excess of the 30mph restriction.
I was told that because it's an 'A' road, a crossing would have to be authorised by the Highways Department at a national level, rather than local government. Is this right?
I was also told that because the children crossing to go to Torkington Primary are out of the school's catchment area, there was no hope. If that's true, it does beg the question...Is the safety of kids who choose schools out of catchment less important?!!!
A lad was killed crossing Torky Rd many years ago and yet, other than down at the Bull's Head, there's no safe place to cross.
