Have you used a search engine to fine out what an Eglu is - it holds up to 4 chickens and they have their own run. There is a good picture of one on the
website. I'll come over for a fresh egg when next in the Grove! It was actually designed in England.

Hiya Grover
Yes, I've done loads of research via the Omlet website and Google! I've looked at lots of wooden houses, arks, sheds and the Eglu wins me over, every time. I've wanted to keep 2 or 3 chickens for ages but I thought we'd have to wait until we'd made our fortune and bought a huge house in the country. Just recently however, there has been a big push on free-range eggs & chickens because of a couple of programmes on Channel 4 and a couple of celebrity chefs promoting free-range. So it sort of galvanized me to research the subject again! You would be more than welcome to come over and try one of our omlettes, or fried, or boiled, or scrambled eggs! We might send you down the garden to collect them forst, mind!

Maybe all posters from Hazel Grove can come over for an egg - so you might need more than one Eglu. We used to keep them in the bottom half of our garden when I was young so we always had fresh eggs. Can remember mixing their food - urghhh.

Adora..am i right that you are also on another place i post on? (getting confused) if so, have you asked on there? there are quite a few ppl from HG there who
i imagine would be more than happy for you to go 'play'. Also worth asking about the ones for rabbits because as far as i can see, the chicken ones are
no different, just bigger.
Worth ringing Dogano do you think? Would love fresh eggs but my bird phobia would mean i run like a screaming toddler instead! |

Ah Grover, you don't have to do all that mixing up of erm,....'yak' now-a-days. It's all specially formulated pellets!!
MW, yes, that is me from the other site (MN). I'll ask on there but my threads don't seem to get noticed! I could ask Dogano if they know of anyone with an eglu I could look at. I go there for the dog's stuff, so I'll enquire next time I'm in. |

Should imagine it would make a mess of your lawn - or rather the chickens would make a mess of your lawn and it would soon be a patch of dirt. I would imagine
rabbits would dig underneath the fencing and escape - our nephew kept a rabbit with proper living accommodation and a good fence but it kept digging under the
fencing.

Hi Adora
If you're thinking of selling your eggs, it might be worth checking out the rules and regulations before you spend any money. I knew a couple who sold free-range eggs for years and gave up in the end as it all got too bothersome. Good luck though, I think it's a great idea! |

Oh no, I'm not doing it so I can sell the eggs G65. I only want two or three chickens. We get through a dozen eggs a week (me, husband & 2 kids) and
hens lay on average, one egg a day, so if we had a few spare, my mother-in-law would have them. To make any money at it, you'd need about 50 hens or more!
You can move the eglu around Grover. I was thinking I'd either move it regularly, so that each patch of grass had time to recover OR, if we found the exact right spot for it, build something more permanent for them, with bark chips etc. We'll see - I've got to buy the thing first. I have my wedding anniversary and my birthday coming up in the next two months. I'm secretly hoping t'other half is planning on surprising me with one! |

Bark chips? And not let the little chickens peck at the ground which is what they do best before laying eggs? You'll end up with bark eggs if yer not
careful!

I have heard that the eggs taste of what ever you feed the chcikens, Grover. Given I know they like grubs, slugs, worms and snails (sounds like the Labour
Party cabinet
!), I'm not sure bark eggs sounds so bad!

We had a chicken hutch built by a local carpenter. It is bigger and more substantial and was considerably cheaper to buy. We have 3 chickens and they produce 3
eggs a day, even now when they are supposed to be having a rest due to the short day light hours. Shentons have bags of feed which make for easy feeding. They
will eat most things not eaten during meals. Apart from peas for some reason, but love pasta. They will eat, grub up all the grass where they can. But make
satisfying meals of all snails in the garden. The soil where they live is lovely too. You can come see if you wish. You should try it certainly.

I have to have a good sense of humour satake11, I'm a Manchester City fan and we NEED a good sense of humour!
Anyway, the Poynton supermarket debates are lightweight compared to another thread/issue, currently running over there. |

Out putting up posters I came across a Lady needing info
on the Chickens (she wants a couple). So Adora if you EMail me I will pass on her details as she is unsure of licences and general regulations in order to keep
them.
She has a friend with an Egloo so may have info on them, though she did tell me they are small.
