assured a warm welcome.

Adora`s Chichs arrive soon she was telling me and she invited us over to see them. You have to bring your own burger buns though, sesame seeds preferred.
I am told she is calling them K, F, and C. Can`t think why? Any ideas |

Oh Man, I've wracked my brains all night long, trying to come up with a pithy putdown to your last post Kevin but I'm just not pithy enough, it seems!
I could get ever so slightly pithy with you mind - if you even look at my chickens the wrong way - any sudden wringing-like movements from you and you'll be sent packing with a box of frozen vegetarian's nuggets and a perfectly formed, fresh organic egg lodged where the sun don't shine!. |

Well they're only 20 weeks old and so not expected to lay an egg for another week or so - bless 'em, they're only babies!
They are very good at scarifying the lawn though. |

How is the egg laying going on Adora? Have images of boxes of eggs in your kitchen waiting for delivery.

Well.....one of the girls has been laying for three weeks now. An egg nearly every day. The other two shiftless articles are showing no inclination WHATSOEVER!
I think I've been sold two duff 'uns!
Went to Chelford agricultural market on Monday, to see if I could buy a couple of Silkies. Did a quick about turn when I discovered it was a proper auction, with farmer type people (ruddy faces, floppy hats, chewing straw, with string around their waists) waiving bidding numbers around. With my nervous tic, I could have ended up with 2 dozen of 'em at a grand a piece! |

Ok - News Update.....another chicken has finally started laying eggs. Two from her so far, so now we're averaging 2 eggs from three chickens per day. Naturally, the kids have chosen this exact moment in time to go off eggs for no apparent reason |

This funny weather is playing havoc with the egg laying. From Three we only get two eggs a day sometimes. The recent rain may bring them some respite and get
them going again.
But I would still rather have two from our own to three supermarket ones anyday. Have they started talking to you yet? |

Yup - they chuck away at me, especially when they've laid an egg! Man, but they can run fast when they see me walking down the garden with sweetcorn! Tis
like a scene from Chariots of Fire!
Number 3 hen is STILL not laying eggs though. She must be well past 26 weeks old now! I'm gonna chase her around the garden with a big sauce pan if she doesn't get a move on soon!!! |

HI, Andora40
Have you noticed that your chickens are wakening much earlier since BST ? We have been awoken several times since then , from our neighbours chickens, as early as 6am, not looking forward to the remainder of summertime, as my partner finishes his work shift at 2am ,only to be awoken at 6am !!!,
He"s not happy at all !!! Any suggestions ??

Hi Caza
I'm now fretting about where you live in case you're one of our neighbours! Yes, the chooks started a right din and for quite a few mornings I was legging it down the garden, desperately trying to shut them up. Actually, I made the whole situation worse. Now I cover the coop with a really thick, heavy duty taupaulin and I also keep the coop door closed. The chickens think it's night time until I open up at about 8.15 to 8.30am. A good feed of porridge and corn, just before they go to bed helps as well - bit like with kids...keeps little chicken tummies fuller for the long night-times! Still, chicken squarking is less noisy than dogs and the old dawn chorus has some folk apoplectic! |
