Did anyone else see what I saw on Sunday, late afternoon? It was sunny and dry, and my 4 yr old son said "I can see a rainbow in the sky!" And
there it was, a lovely rainbow, but not where rainbows should be! It was high in the sky, nowhere near the horizon. It stayed for at least ten minutes I
would say - I didn't time it, I was too busy searching for my camera! But it was certainly there for quite some time. A magical moment, I shan't
forget it! Did you see it?

I didn't see your rainbow on Sunday, but I recall many years ago when I was growing up in South Africa. I looked up and saw a large circle rainbow in the
sky, and it was neatly encircling the sun.

If it was round the sun, it was probably caused by ice crystals in the upper atmosphere.

Thanks. I have been told that this beautiful phenomenon was reported on Granada news weather I think. It was a lovely , magical moment and I hope my son
remembers it when he is all grown up! the sky was so, so beautiful that afternoon, I took loads of photos of the cloud formations! I hope we get to see
another one some time soon.
